Toolmaking

Built for production, designed for performance

We specialise in crafting high-quality, cost-effective tools that perform under pressure. Our integrated toolroom combines advanced computer numerically controlled (CNC) technology with deep industry expertise to deliver tooling that’s built to last, whether you’re producing thousands or millions of parts.

CAMWorks: Seamless Design-to-Machine Workflow

We use CAMWorks alongside SolidWorks to generate precise toolpaths for our CNC machines. Because the two platforms are fully integrated, your approved 3D design is machined exactly as intended—no translation errors, no manual file conversions. Any design updates are instantly reflected in the machining files, ensuring accuracy at every stage of the build.

A Smarter Toolmaking Facility

Our integrated facility brings design and plastics toolmaking together under one roof. This approach reduces manufacturing time, increases consistency and keeps costs down. It means we can respond faster, solve problems quicker and deliver better outcomes for your project.

We generally produce two types of tools. Hardened steel tools are designed for high-volume production of parts and fast cycle times—these are tough, long-lasting moulds built to handle millions of shots. For medium- to high-volume production, we use P-20 steel tooling. These robust tools are engineered for hundreds of thousands of cycles and are sometimes treated with nitriding in critical areas for longer wear.

Precision CNC Machining

Our toolroom runs Hass and Victor 3-axis machining centres with spindle speeds of up to 15,000 rpm. By using shallow cuts at high feed rates we can rapidly remove material while achieving tight tolerances and fine surface finishes. The result is precision tooling that requires minimal hand polishing and delivers outstanding moulded part quality.

EDM Spark Erosion for Complex Detail

When your design demands features that conventional machining can’t achieve, we use EDM Spark Erosion. This process removes metal using a precisely controlled electrical discharge under carefully controlled conditions, allowing us to create intricate geometries and detailed textures directly on the tool’s cavity face. It’s ideal for adding logos, textures and complex contours with unmatched precision.

Speed & Accuracy

Everything we do as injection toolmakers is about speed, accuracy and long-term value. Whether you're producing a few thousand parts or scaling up to millions, our tooling is designed to support your goals—efficiently, reliably and with the finish your product deserves.

Tool Maintenance

With our on-site toolroom and experienced engineers, we keep your tooling in top condition through regular maintenance and prompt repairs when needed. All moulds are numbered, catalogued and securely stored in dedicated tooling racks. NTD currently manages around 400 customer-owned moulds.
